Overview Wireless 9-1-1 from your AT&T local exchange company is a public safety service that enables public safety answering points to obtain a call-back number and location information from mobile telephone callers.
Wireless 9-1-1 service is currently being implemented in conjunction with local public safety agencies and wireless carriers, to give cellular and PCS phone users access to the same 9-1-1 and other emergency services available to citizens calling from "wireline" telephones.
The public safety agencies will receive a 9-1-1 call, along with the caller's mobile telephone number (a.k.a. "the call-back number") and data that can aid in providing location information, either the cell site/sector that is processing the call, or the latitude and longitude coordinates of the calling phone.
